Voice of Mindanao: Peace Comms

Peace Communications Program (PCP) The Peace Communications Program is the most popular among the banner programs of VoM, especially among the in-school youth. This has been conducted in Ateneo De Zamboanga University, Western Mindanao State University, Mein College, all in Zamboanga City, and once in Saint Vincent’s College in Dipolog City and Notre Dame of Jolo College in Sulu. This has also been done with the Kusug Batah Sug in Sulu, and a mixed group of student leaders from four areas in Basilan, namely, Ungkaya Pukan, Albarka, Tipo-Tipo, and Lamitan City. The PCP consists of four modules: Peace Communications (Introductory and Advanced Levels), Peace Journalism (Introductory and Advanced Levels), and Creative Peace (Introductory and Advanced Levels). These modules have been prepared by Ms. Frencie Carreon and Ms. Deorenzie Frances Carreon. The PCP is the distinctive program of VoM.

Youth Empowerment Program (YEP)

VoM officers take the lead in communicating with youth directly or through organizations, involving them in promoting peace-building and peace advocacy.

Through some support from individuals and other organizations, VoM provides some assistance to young Mindanaoans who have been affected by domestic armed conflict through opportunities on skills development.

With the youth in conflict-affected areas as priority beneficiaries, VoM links up with organizations that provide fora of learning for the youth in their social consciousness, environmental awareness, and skills development, especially in communications, and similar opportunities of academic growth.

Believing how others may also contribute in peace-building activities, VoM partners with media and advocacy organizations in disseminating information on issues that affect, directly or indirectly, the youth of Mindanao.

Leadership, Personality Development, Skills Development, Peer Mentoring and Group Facilitating, Public Relations, and Teambuilding—through these areas, VoM empowers the youth in its own little yet selfless way, for them to become more responsible Filipino citizens.

VoM In-house Training-Workshops

VoM conducts in-house trainings for its officers and members, as part of its Capacity-Building Program.

These are conducted by representatives of partner institutions that support VoM by providing trainers and resource speakers, as well as training materials.

These trainings include Leadership and Personality Development, Peer Mentoring and Group Facilitating, Public Speaking, Creative Writing, News Writing, Business Writing, Environmental Awareness, IT Software Applications, Public Relations, and Team Building.

These trainings empower VoM leaders and members as they do their volunteer work to the youth in schools and communities with whom they interact, and serve.
