The Voice of Mindanao is an organization of youth and young professionals from and for Mindanao who are moving together to promote peace and healing, especially in conflict-affected zones, through youth empowerment and responsible citizenship for a better southern Philippines.

The mission of VoM is to bring together the voices of the people, especially the young, in Mindanao in moving towards peace and development through communication and cross-cultural understanding.

Female Youth Involvement

Female Youth Involvement (FYI) Program The FYI Program is the VoM program that responds to the issues on gender awareness and gender sensitivity, and female youth engagement in school and community activities especially in cultural groups. FYI has the following modules: Awareness on Gender Issues (Gender, Culture and Socialization; Gender Awareness and Situation Analysis; Gender Biases; Violence Against Women); Engaging Women (Involving Young Women in the Communities for Health Programs; Building Partnerships with Women Political Leaders and Women’s Groups; Laws on Women; Appreciating Gender Equality; and Engaging Female Youth in Community Development); and Advocacy on Female Engagement Programs (Marketing the Program and Organizing Events for, and with, Women and Female Youth; and Appreciating the Tausug/Yakan Culture, with Basic Tausug/Yakan Language Lessons). The FYI Modules have been prepared by Ms. Maria Frencie Carreon, Dr. Charisma Ututalum, Ms. Nica Angelie Alavar, Councilor Charina Izquierdo-Isahac, Ms. Maricar Corina Canaya, Ms. Sitti Aliyya Jubail, and PCInspector Izel Maravilles. The language lessons have been prepared by Ms. Fatima Alyza Undug for Tausug and Ms. Raiza Dapilin for Yakan. For a special program with the young women in the Philippine Marine Corps based in Sulu and Zamboanga, additional modules have been prepared by 1Lt. Catherine Mendoza, PN(M), and Ms. Melinda Francisco of the PNP Regional Training Center. Activities under the FYI included not only the training of Female Engagement Teams of the Philippine Marines, but also of community women leaders in four municipalities in Sulu. Most of the community and social action activities of VoM since 2008 have been related to its FYI program.
